The Put God First Challenge
Day 17: Living in Freedom
Father,
You have called me to live in freedom, yet I sometimes find myself bound by fear, sin, or the weight of my past. Your Word declares that if the Son sets me free, I am free indeed (John 8:36). Help me to walk fully in the freedom You have given me, leaving behind anything that holds me back. Remind me that Christ has set me free so that I will no longer be burdened by a yoke of slavery (Galatians 5:1). I don’t want to live chained to things You have already broken off my life.
Lord, I know that true freedom is not the right to do whatever I please, but the ability to live according to Your will. Your Spirit brings freedom, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17). I no longer have to be ruled by sin because my old self was crucified with Christ, and I have been set free from sin’s power (Romans 6:6-7). Give me the strength to resist anything that tries to pull me back into bondage, whether it be fear, doubt, shame, or temptation.
Jesus, You came to proclaim freedom for the captives and release the oppressed (Isaiah 61:1). Thank You for delivering me from the kingdom of darkness and bringing me into the kingdom of light (Colossians 1:13-14). When I feel trapped by my own struggles, remind me that Your truth sets me free (John 8:32). Give me a heart that longs to obey You, for I will walk about in freedom when I seek Your commands (Psalm 119:45).
I know that freedom is not just about what I’m released from, but what I’m called into. You didn’t free me so I could live for myself—you freed me so I could serve You and love others. Help me use my freedom to walk in righteousness and bear fruit for Your kingdom. Your Word says that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus because the law of the Spirit has set me free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:1-2). May I live each day with confidence in that truth.
Lord, let me embrace the freedom of living under Your perfect law, the law that gives liberty (James 1:25). Instead of running back to the things that once enslaved me, I choose to stand firm in Your truth. Fill me with joy, knowing that I am no longer a prisoner to sin, but a child of God walking in the fullness of Your grace.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
